Across the Atlantic - Our project in brief
This project of crossing of the Atlantic ocean is inspired by the journey made by Laurent Clerc in 1816. This page is a brief explanation of the project and provides answers to the main questions people put us.

When will the trip go ? We want to leave Le Havre (France) next June 18.
Why ? We want to commemorate the journey made in 1816 by the Frenchman Laurent Clerc who went in America where he initiated the deaf child teaching for which nothing existed.
Who was Laurent Clerc ? A French, deaf, professor at the Institut Royal des Sourds de Paris (see the page "Who was Laurent Clerc").
How do you do this crossing ? With a boat, of course, since Clerc made his journey by boat !
What boat type ? As much as possible with a 50 or 60 feet "open" sailboat, similar to the one of those who participates to the high seas races in order to do the crossing in two or three weeks only.
Where are you going ? One possible destination is Washington (DC) the federal capital of the United States where is located Gallaudet University. The other place is Hartford (Connecticut) where is the school founded by Laurent Clerc. We hope that the deaf American will accept to invite us.
What are the waited fallouts ? Media mainly. They will permit people to discover a few know aspect of the export of an inestimable part of the French culture toward America in years 1800.
We wish to write a book relating our adventure. We wish too, do a report and build or develop an Internet website. We also wish a partnership with schools for deaf child.
What is the amount of the budget ? About 150 000 €uros (approximatively US $190,000). It is a weak amount in relation to the cost of least span projects. We planned our adventure for a duration of three months. We will meet deaf people in France and in the United States. We will make efforts to do this event will be an unforgettable event on each side of the Atlantic ocean.
How do you find the funds ? We made a call to subsidies, to sponsors (sponsorships), to companies, enterprises and those who accept to be donators and to all people wanting to help us.
